Mahamaya Parvati as I See Her
Though some have stood out as closest to like Devi, Parvati, Durga, in one of so many forms in my imaginings, daydreams and devotions, I’m sometimes o’ertaken by so many lovely apparitions of feminine divine, Goddess manifest in women I chance to know, as lovers or friends or mere acquaintance wherein even is clear sign of divine Her. I look all around me, in past-times jubilance and even present languor, and whether known intimately or merely glimpsed in a crowd with one brief look of knowing, Her eyes for just one moment flashing through another’s, in some seeming random woman on the way to work, at market, coffeehouse or bar, She shows Her Presence, even if inaccessible sometimes.
Playful and sometimes harsh in Her love-play (She even bites sometimes!), sometimes teasing to teach , making love to elevate Her lover and bless the world as well as for bliss-sake, slaying to impart peace and enact compassion. Animal wild in Her actions and motions when flames—tejas—righteous stoked, whether afire for passion or punishment, pleasure to pain She knows with deepest wisdom; Greatest Yogini, Fiercest Sadhvini, Her Yoni is source of Life, Her Breasts flow forth to feed the world, Her Grace enough to melt the coldest heart, She is Pure—yet by no means chaste…
I’m sure I’ve seen Her even recently, in one lovely form or another proverbially winking at me, some fair maiden at coffeehouse or passing on the sidewalk, laughing gleefully yet not unmoved by devotions offered in each breath, for sometimes I’m sure I hear Her gasp with delight or desire as I raise my voice in intonations of sacred sounds, else in frenzied fervor of ecstatic nata, worshiping Her in wildman’s dance—devotions of a man mad with love’s spell, Kama’s arrow perhaps, or deeper far: bhakti. Jaya jaya MahaMaya!!! Jaya jaya Parvati!!!!

A Double Rainbow During 4th of July AUM circle in New Mexico 2009
">
Montana 2000 This particular year I helped start a kitchen in Bus Village, "Au Naturale Café". Food is free, no money to be exhanged--trade circle's the thing, lotsa hugs and full respect all 'round. Naked people abound as a natural way of being, and not some love-in sorta thing, respect accompanies the Rainbow Tribe's ways!!! A modern bunch who lives more like the ideals of the saints of nigh any tradition you'll likely not find (with the partial exception that celibacy is not a general rule, though many sometimes go that route, and though appropriate cuddle-puddles sometimes happen, this ain't no orgy).
">
Big and skinny dance naked, covered in the mud, yet no one needs feel self-conscious here (New Mexico 2009), brothers and sistas, mommas n papas n little ones too, lovin' and protectin' eachother with righteous respect and all greated with "Welcome Home" when reaching the Gathering, whether in the Americas, Australia, Asia or Europe, Africa or some island in-between.

Narmada River Musings . . .
So I've read of many a version of myth about the Narmada River, one often less acknowledged than the Ganges, but of similar importance. One I recall was of Mahadeva emerging from the Narmada as one of the bana linga (natural linga stones found in the Narmada River's flow).
Sometimes overwhelmed, I imagine curling up as a linga, fallin' into the river and rollin' with its flow for a time, ya' know? Re-emerge when shit's blown over, ills burnt themselves out, renewal manifests. S'pose I don't have that option, 'cuz too much good work to be done, transformations and beautified manifestations, dances to be danced and sitting to be sat and fires to engage to accomplish great and good movements and purifications . . . so maybe sometime I'll settle for a shower in Narmada's flow.
Another myth of this mystical river reads as follows:
"Young Narmada falls in love with the male river Son and asks Juhilla (a tributary of the Son) to convey her message of love. Juhilla entices Son herself. The disgust and anguish of the lovely Narmada compels her to jump off the western cliffs of Amarkantak. A mere six kilometers from her genesis, the Narmada hurtles down 150 feet at Kapildhara, a gorgeous waterfall." (http://india.mapsofindia.com/culture/indian-rivers/narmada-river.html)
'Tis also said the Narmada came from the sweat of Mahadeva, Siva, Master and Progenitor of yoga, in the throes of intense meditation.

Some Sweet Songs For Sivaratri Devotions
Maha Shivratri or Maha Sivaratri or Shivaratri or Sivaratri (Night of Shiva or "Great Night of Shiva") is a festival celebrated every year on the 13th night/14th day in the Krishna Paksha (waning moon) of the month of Maagha (as per Shalivahana or Gujarati Vikrama) or Phalguna (as per Vikrama) in the Hindu Calendar (that is, the night before and day of the new moon). (from Wikipedia article "Maha Shivaratri")
This year Mahasivaratri is celebrated on February 12 of the "Western" calendar...
This devotional to Parvati will melt the hardest of hearts, without a doubt!!!!
">
Jaya jaya Parvati Devi, Greatest Mother, Greatest Goddess!!!!!
A bit more energetic...
">
Happy and Partyin' Great God!!

If you're wonderin' about the Native American Indian theme to the video, see post titled "Maybe Columbus Was Right After All . . ." which clearly shows Sanskrit influences in several Native American Indian tongues and religions...
And a more traditional slideshow, yo!!!

Shivaratri in Taos
Though I'm personally only loosely affiliated with the Hanuman Temple in Taos, its the best place I've been (in this lifetime, anyhow) to celebrate the all night party that is known as Sivaratri. The celebration offers devotees and truthseekers a glimpse of the beauty of the union of Siva and Parvati, and of linga and yoni (yes, SEX!!) in most pure and universal manifestation.
A past Sivaratri Celebration in Taos . . .
The celebration begins at around sundown, this year on February 12, and lasts till the sun comes up. Great chai and kirtan (call and response chanting), a campfire out front, a bit of Cannabis consumption on the semi-lowdown (smoking charas--"hashish"--is a big part of the traditional celebration of this thousands of years old celebration in India and elsewhere, but is still unfortunately not legal for devotees in this country, despite supposed religious liberty), a great middle of the night vegetarian feast, and an amazingly colorful band of devotees manifest for this party in Taos on the night of the dark moon in the month of Maagha (sometime in February or March).
Yes, it's cool the love dicks and vaginas!!!
May or may not make it there myself, but if you're in the area and feel inclined to observe this night of worship of the Divine Masculine and Feminine united, linga-yoni devotion, and good food and good worship, do stop by . . .

Kumari and Mary, Two Virgins Touted Divine
Compare the Nepalese Virgin Goddess, purported living Avatar of Durga, and generally important tantric Deity, Kumari, and the Christian and especially Catholic versions of the Virgin Mary, mother of Jeshua ben Joseph (aka "Jesus") . . .
and please do take the liberty to contemplate what the deeper story is, connects the high Himalayas and the Mediterannean's eastern shores . . .
(By the way, Kumari dates from at least the late Vedic period, more than a thousand years before 1 CE/AD).

Let's Fund Health Care With The Pentagon's Fat-Ass Budget!!
Both California and New York, as well as various other states, are bitching about money they're gonna have to pay to fund the health care changes being developed between the House of Representatives and Senate. There is a really easy and obvious option to fund even a more comprehensive and compassionate option, rivaling or bettering Canada's system, or those of various European countries: take some dough from the Pentagon's $600+ billion-a-year budget!! What the hell does this nation need so much money for "defense" when the rest of the world's spending on guns and bombs combined is only slightly greater?!?! Are those running the government afraid everybody else is gonna declare war on the good ole USA?!?! It is indeed a travesty of justice that this country won't care for its neediest, when the richest nation of the whole world, and instead spends such an obscene amount on weapons won't likely ever be used (or at least let us hope and pray)!!
"Of all the enemies to public liberty war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes … known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few.… No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare."
— James Madison, Political Observations, 1795
